Its for an open position we have in my company. We want to verify that somebody saying they are a CPA really is.
Thanks!

Ask for their license number. Then go to your state’s CPA society website or call them. They should be able to tell you if there is such a license (at least registered with them) and if it’s in good standing.
If that doesn’t work, it may be because they aren’t part of your state’s society (which is unusual, but not unheard of), but you can still contact the AICPA. If they have no record of this person, then they aren’t a CPA. At least not recognized in the US.
If somethings fishy, you’ll probably be able to tell right away anyway. When you ask for their license number, if they aren’t actually a CPA or aren’t in good standing, then they’ll probably find some way to not give it to you.
Good luck. :0)
It is actually quite simple. No matter what state you are in, states regulate CPA’s! As a part of each states government there is someone that is responsible for licensing. The problem is that each state calls that office something different. Therefore, call the state’s toll free general number (it is in directory listed with governments) and ask the respondent to trf you to the office that would license Certified Public Accountants.
That office can confirm & give you his certificate number. He better know his own number.
