Starting out as an affiliate marketer is hard and overwhelming. You are doing it to make money in this merciless economy. Yet, you can’t seem to get a break in this new career. Here are a few tips that should help you.

  1. The first thing to know about starting a career in affiliate marketing is you will most definitely spend money getting yourself educated. There really is no way around it. You will end up buying a book, e-book, software, or a class somewhere, so be prepared to spend money on education.
  2. You are not alone. Most experienced affiliate marketers are extremely friendly and helpful. They give a lot of advice away for free. Why do they do that? Because they remember what it was like when they were new in the affiliate business. Besides, a true affiliate is not an opportunists. They are helpful and kindhearted people. Find an affiliate marketer mentor.
  3. Research an education site before you join. Some education sites are scams. There are also some that are too advance for new marketers. To do research on a product or education website, just type in the phrase for it in Google and follow it with review or scam. Another technique is going to the website IM Report Card and look for the service. IM Report Card is a legit site that features comments and ratings for products, business people, and services. Also, it is free to become a member on IM Report Card. If you make comments or rate a service or product you earn points that you can convert to cash.
  4. Note: One thing to remember is if you keep finding comments about an educational website that is good, yet the information is overwhelming and confusing, stay clear from that website until you get some education and experience under your belt.
  5. Learn Internet marketing terms. I am talking about terms like SEO, keywords, niche, and PPC. If you learn your terms in the beginning it will save you a lot of time and frustration.
  6. It is best for a beginner to start out using the bum marketing technique. This means writing articles, creating blogs, and making Squidoo lenses. Bum marketing is usually free. Sometimes, it costs a little money, but not much. This way if you decide that affiliate marketing is not for you, then you wouldn’t have thrown lots of money away.
  7. Get experience writing. Being an affiliate marketer requires you to write 90% percent of the time. So, start practicing and research tips on how to write efficient and informative articles. Associated Content is the perfect place to get writing practice. There is one product that provides a lot of Internet marketing education concerning article writing and techniques. It is an e-book called “The Content Chef”. Of course you have to pay for the e-book, but you get loads of easy to follow instructions and simple to read information for your money.
  8. Take your time. I know you are scrounging for money and desperate to make this new career work, but rushing into things is not going to help you. If you are a quick learner by nature then you can probably move swiftly through your education and practice articles. However, if it takes you a while to grasp new things then please take your time educating yourself. I cannot express this strongly enough. If you go into this without fully understanding Internet marketing terms, then you are going to cost yourself a lot of money.

The affiliate marketing career should be enjoyable. So, don’t stress yourself out. Relax and read everything you can get your hands on (without spending hundreds of dollars) concerning your new career choice. Remember, there is gold in them Internet hills, so stay alert, determined, positive, and persistent.
